Aaron Kohn (Jesse Hutcheson)

Aaron Kohn is relatively new to the world of photojournalism, but has spent the last few years working with non-fiction film across global boundaries.  Aaron was struck by the power of film after viewing the portrayal of a utopian culture in Africa in the 1980 movie The Gods Must Be Crazy. Upon realizing that the story was based on the constructed identity and assumptions of the west rather than the real story of the Bushmen, Aaron set out to tell genuine, positive, and ethical narratives about Africa.  His documentary, Project Kick Talk, about the Bushmen in the 1980 blockbuster won awards at three film festivals in the United States. Since filming the documentary in 2006, Aaron has continued to work on various storytelling projects in Africa and New York City, where he is a student at Columbia University.

Jesse Hutcheson (James Gregg)

Jesse Hutcheson is a Virginia based photographer who currently works full time at Christopher Newport University while finishing his undergraduate degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Photography. Jesse had the great opportunity to travel to Guadalajara, Mexico with Truth With a Camera and is excited to join the group again for a trip to South America. He has also worked in the mountains of Haiti covering the issue of poverty and has spent time photographing the life of the homeless on the east end of his hometown of Newport News, Virginia. Jesse has developed the passion necessary to tell the stories of those who do not have a voice. His  aim is to expose the pain we allow our fellow man to undergo. His hope is that his photography both educates and inspires, but most importantly, brings change to the world.

James Gregg (Jesse Hutcheson)

James Gregg has been a staff photographer at the Arizona Daily Star since 2006.  He is most passionate about work that expands readers’ awareness about the world around them and can bridge gaps of understanding between people. He has been part of an investigative team that documented the 2,000 mile land border between the U.S. and Mexico, and has covered other border topics such as the legal immigration process, urban enforcement of immigration law, drug smuggling routes, and increasing drug cartel violence in the border city of Nogales, Sonora in addition to cultural stories such as a traditional Mexican horseback ride and fishing for giant Humboldt squid in the Sea of Cortez.

“My hope is to take people places that they otherwise would not go for themselves or show them something in a way that they may not have thought about.” The passion for photojournalism as a critical component for understanding that trancends race, gender and socio-economic or politcal circumstances is what serves as James’ main motivation. He is the current Arizona Photographer of the Year for the second consecutive year and Photojournalist of the Year-Smaller Markets for NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism. In 2009 he received two regional Emmy Awards  for multimedia. Prior to moving to Arizona, James began his career at a Spanish language publication in northern Colorado. He has lived in Ecuador and Costa Rica as an exchange student and holds a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Kansas

Sara Lewkowicz (Santiago Sorrano)

Sara Naomi Lewkowicz, first and foremost, really hates writing in the third person as though someone else were writing her bio for her. She was born in New York City, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and currently works as a freelance photojournalist in Annapolis, MD. This is her second trip with Truth With A Camera, and she is thoroughly looking forward to having another adventure, this time in Quito, Ecuador.
